Steep slopes are one of those problems that only get worse if you ignore them. Erosion, shifting soil, crumbling edges - it adds up fast. When a slope needs to be held back the right way, big block retaining walls are hard to beat. That's exactly what we're working with on this Woodbury job.
We went with Recon big block for this one. These aren't your standard small segmental blocks. Recon units are large, heavy, and engineered specifically for walls that need serious holding power. They interlock tightly, they sit level, and they give you a clean, finished face that looks sharp once the work is done. Strength and appearance in one system.
One thing that separates a wall that lasts from one that fails early is what you can't see - drainage. You'll notice the drain pipe coming through the face of the wall. That's not an afterthought. Water buildup behind a retaining wall is one of the biggest reasons walls crack, lean, or blow out entirely. We plan for drainage from the start, every time.
This one is still in progress. The base is set, the courses are stacking up, and the crew is working through some tight conditions along the slope. Skid steer work in a narrow corridor like this takes precision - it's not a wide-open job site. But the wall is going up solid, and we're looking forward to sharing the finished result.
