This Afton property had a lot going on - sloped terrain, no usable yard space to speak of, and a backyard that wasn't doing much for the homeowners. The goal was to change all of that. We came in with a plan to grade and level the yard, build out boulder retaining walls to hold everything in place, and create a flagstone patio with a fire pit as the centerpiece.
The boulder walls are the foundation of this whole project - literally. When you're dealing with grade changes like this, you need something that can hold significant soil pressure over time. Natural boulder walls do that well, and they look sharp doing it. Each stone gets placed deliberately so the wall ties together tightly and stays put for years without shifting or settling out.
The flagstone patio is coming together nicely. We laid the stone in a circular pattern radiating out from the fire pit - it gives the whole space a natural, intentional feel that fits the wooded setting. The fire pit structure is set and ready to go. Once everything cures and the surrounding area gets cleaned up, this is going to be a serious outdoor living space.
We're still working through this one. Sod is next, which will tie the graded yard together and make the whole thing feel finished. There's also more wall work to do out front. This is the kind of job where you're building multiple things at once, and it takes some patience to see it all start clicking. But it's getting there, and the progress is clear.
This is exactly the kind of full-scope work we do - grading, walls, hardscape, fire features, all working together as one cohesive project. When it all comes together, the homeowner ends up with a yard that actually functions the way they want it to.
