Boulder Wall and Shed Prep Done Right in Savage

Some yards need more than just cleanup - they need a solid foundation before anything else can happen. That was exactly the situation here in Savage. The slope needed to be addressed, the grade needed work, and a proper base had to be built before the next phases could move forward.

We installed a boulder wall along the hillside to hold back the slope and create a clean, stable edge. These aren't decorative rocks stacked for looks - they're set to do a job. A properly built boulder wall holds soil in place, prevents erosion, and gives the rest of the yard something solid to work around. Done right, it lasts for decades without shifting or settling.

With the wall in, we moved into grading and compacting the shed pad area. The plate compactor you see working the gravel base is there for a reason. Skipping compaction is one of the most common mistakes on projects like this - and it causes big problems later. Soft, uneven base material leads to settling, cracking, and a structure that never quite sits right. We don't cut corners on the stuff you can't see.

This one isn't finished yet. We'll be back once the concrete and garage are done to wrap it up with sod. That's actually how a lot of yard projects should work - phase it out so each trade has the space and conditions they need to do their best work. Coordinating that process is something we handle all the time.
