Lakefront properties come with their own set of challenges. The terrain is uneven, the ground near the water is tricky to work with, and you need everything to hold up long-term against moisture and soil movement. This White Bear Lake project had all of that going on - and then some.

Here's what we put together: a boulder wall with steps leading down toward the lake, a paver patio centered around a built-in fire pit, and a river rock border that ties the whole thing together. The large natural boulders do a lot of work here - they define the space, handle grade changes, and give the whole setup a rugged, natural feel that fits the lakeside setting perfectly.

The paver layout itself is tight and clean. Getting pavers to sit right on a sloped, irregular site like this takes real prep work underneath - proper base compaction, careful grading, and making sure water moves away from the surface the way it should. Cut corners on any of that and you're looking at shifting and settling within a couple of seasons.

What we ended up with is a spot that actually works for the way people use a lake property. You've got a solid surface to set chairs, a fire pit that's ready to go at the end of a long day on the water, and steps that get you down to the shoreline without scrambling over uneven ground. Simple, functional, and built to last.

That combination - boulder walls, paver patios, and walkways that connect everything - is exactly what we do. Every property is different, but the goal is always the same: outdoor space that fits the land and works for real life.
